Dear Parents & Students of Miss Dausmann's 2015-2016 4th Grade Class,

Happy last day of school!  For me, the theme of the year has been gratitude.  At class meeting on Wednesdays, we took time to share things, people, and experiences we were thankful for.  Outside of school, I committed myself to this practice on a daily basis.  In a journal, I recorded five points of gratitude.  Last weekend, I spent time reviewing my gratitude journal and noticed some very common themes: family, friends, nature, simple creature comforts, and students.  Time after time, I listed things like "a workplace that allows me to be creative," "a job I love getting to do each day," "being able to work with kids who make my heart happy," and "lessons about kindness from nine and ten year olds."  Beyond this I often listed specific students by names and their advice, jokes, stories, and behaviors.  This school year has taught me so much about focusing on the positive, appreciating the current circumstance, and expressing love and gratitude to those nearest and dearest.

Parents, thank you for your continued support and encouragement.  I am a better teacher because of your care.

Sincerely,
Miss Dausmann

Students learned how pioneers used musket rifles for hunting.

We waited patiently to learn how to make candles.

Abby takes a break in the shade to cool off.

Students listened to a fiddle player describe the difference between a reel and a jig. He knew hundreds of songs and talked about how pioneers had one "recess" a month, a time for families to relax, sing, dance, and socialize.

Madison & Christian show off their candle wicks before dipping them into melted wax and cold water.
