Cooperation, teamwork, sportsmanship, whatever you call it, we can all agree life is better when we use it.  This week during class meeting, students shared ways they would cooperate with one another during Art, at recess, with their family, and in other settings.

November 3, 2017

Our Class Meetings this week focused on expectations because we had some special events:  Halloween parade & party and our field trip to Cahokia Mounds.  Students created lists about behaviors that are "always okay" and behaviors that are "never okay."  We made sure to get really specific about ways to earn these privileges.  Students agreed that as our excitement levels rise, so must our self-control.  Guess what?  They rocked it. =)

Image result for image: leadership
Students discussed leadership this week as part of Class Meeting, and they had so many great ideas to share!  They believe a leader is different than a boss, because a leader is willing to pitch in and help with the "hard stuff" instead of telling others what to do.  They believe leaders set examples for other kids, sometimes even older students.  They also know that leaders aren't perfect; they own up to mistakes and make a plan to improve going forward.

October 20, 2017

Class Meeting was so powerful this week!  We talked a lot about apologizing, and students shared language we could all try for apologies.  We ended up classifying them into three categories.  A "green apology" is for a simple mistake of bumping into someone and sounds like, "Whoops, sorry."  A "yellow apology" takes a little more thought and sounds like, "I apologize for ___.  I hope you can forgive me."  A "red apology" is for a big or intentional mistake.  It sounds like, "I ___, and I bet that made you feel ___.  In the future I ___."  Miss Dausmann had a lot of apologizing to do this week in order to model what it can look and feel like.  =)  Here's a great article I read recently that prompted this class discussion.

Molly records notes about a rock's lack of magnetism.

Noah uses a streak plate to see if his rock is strong enough to leave a mark.
