During class meeting this week, we learned about Habit #3: Put First Things First. Students shared their after school activities: sports practice, dinner, homework, playing outside, device time, talking with family, personal hygiene, etc. They learned every evening can't include every activity and practiced prioritizing the most important things.

Students from SLU came to Crestwood to present Tar Wars. 



Students learned about the harmful effects of smoking and tobacco products.  



Cyrus and Carter served as each team's "sticky person."  Teams brainstormed the negative things  smoking can do to a person's body.  






Katie shared a special item as part of Star of the Week, a wooden pen from Albania.

This week during class meeting, we focused on Habit #2: Begin with the End in Mind. Students worked together on an an online jigsaw puzzle. Without seeing the picture ahead of time, making sense of the pieces was difficult and stressful. We struggled to make progress. After taking a look at the picture, we were able to put the puzzle together fairly quickly. Knowing the intended outcome helped us to make smart choices to get the desired result.

  • Students will bring home Midterm Reports next Wednesday, 9/21. This serves as a reflection of each student's academic and behavioral performance during the first five weeks of school.

Empathy is a complex phenomenon that requires both self-awareness and a willingness to think about a situation from another's point of view. Watch this short video to learn a simple two word question to ask your child to help him/her build and grow that empathy muscle.

  • Students learned a simple and fun way to practice multiplication facts this week. 1. Grab a deck of playing cards. 2. Decide on a set of facts to practice (example: x3s). 3. Say "3 x " then flip a card over and multiply by that number. *A=1, J=11, Q=12, K=0
