Our character word this week was honesty.  Students shared reasons it's sometimes hard to be truthful:  our brains get greedy about things, like when a parent tells us we can grab 2 cookies, but we want so many more!  Even more common, telling the truth can be challenging when we are afraid of getting in trouble over a mistake we've made.  Finally, we shared ways to build trust with friends, parents, and teachers.  Students agreed that building small "blocks" of trust pays off when someone really needs to count on us.  We can build trust by:

  • 'fessing up to the small things
  • letting someone know when an item gets broken (whether it's an accident or intentional)
  • avoiding talking badly about others
  • asking for help when we need it
  • keeping our word
  •  never falsely accusing someone
