  • Sign up here to help with Adopt-a-Family, a school-wide program that helps Crestwood families during the holiday season. 
  • Red Ribbon Week is next week!
    • On Monday, wear red.
    • On Tuesday, wear your favorite college apparel.  
    • On Wednesday, wear crazy socks.  Students will also take their walking field trip to City Hall on this day. 
  • Parent Teacher Conferences will take place on Monday & Tuesday of next week from 4:00-7:30 pm.  
  • Crestwood will host a Book Fair on Tuesday-Thursday of next week.  Students will be able to visit during their recess or other selected times throughout the day.
  • The Incredible Pizza lunch & limousine ride will take place on Wednesday for students who met the sales goal during our fundraiser. 
  • Our Halloween party is next Thursday, October 29th.  
    • The parade begins at 1:30 pm, and classroom parties are 2:00-3:00 pm.  
    • Fun activities are planned, but parent help is needed to make it a success.  Sign up here to send in an item on Monday OR make a small donation of $3.  A sturdy straw broom is also needed for a game.  
    • Thank you so much for helping out! 
  • There is no school on Friday, October 30th.

Students in Miss Howe's  & Miss Dausmann's classes learn that Walt Disney didn't let his learning differences prevent him from having an extremely successful career.  

Students held items that represented different celebrities who had learning disabilities.

  • Be sure took discuss your child's Weekly Reflection, sign, and return on Monday. 
  • Our field trip to Cahokia Mounds is next Wednesday, and we are so excited!  All students will need to bring a sack lunch for this day, as we will be eating a late lunch when we return about 1:30 pm.  Snacks will be provided during the day.  
  • Abilities Awareness day is next Friday at Crestwood.  Students in grades 3-5 will learn from veterans, specialists, guests with disabilities, and others.  In the past few years, this has a been a great day for students to learn more about diversity and compassion. 
  • Parent Teacher Conferences are coming up soon.  I will send a confirmation note on Monday.  
  • We are in need for toilet paper, wrapping paper, and paper towel cardboard rolls for a project we'll do in November.  Please send them in anytime between now and November 13th.

Writer's Workshop
     Students are publishing their Realistic Fiction stories using Google Documents.  Students spent time adding transition phrases and synonyms for "said" to their writing.  They edited for 4th grade quality punctuation and capitalization.  Look for a writing celebration invitation soon!

Math
     In Math, we continued studying the relationship between multiplication and division.  Students learned some rules and properties of both operations, and they practiced generating factors and multiples of different numbers.   

Reader's Workshop
     Students created their own Word Harvests in their Reading Journals.  This is a place for them to record new, interesting words and use the book's context clues to infer the meaning.

  • Miss Kemper, an MU student teacher, will be observing and helping in our classroom over the next two weeks.  We are excited to have another teacher to help us grow and to support her as she learns more about education!

During class meetings this week, we spent time talking about gratitude.  Gratitude means showing appreciation for the simple things we already have, rather than following our brain's instinct to always want more.  Gratitude also means expressing sincere thanks when others do something nice for you.

Library

Because Wednesday was Picture Day, Mr Stevens came to our classroom for Library.  He filled us in on our library's new inhabitant, Shell the Turtle.  Shell loves hearing poetry by Shel Silverstein, and Mr. Stevens encouraged kids to stop by and read a poem or two to our new pet.

Monissa uses a whisper phone to reread her Realistic Fiction story to find a place to add her character's inner thinking.

Science
Mrs. Branding taught students more about the scientific method this week.  Students completed a salt water investigation and practiced measuring the height of bouncing ping pong balls on different surfaces.
